SA here I come. I have confirmed booking of flights and hotels. Expect sterling to massively devalue against the Rand.

Lions internal flight tickets arrived yesterday

In that dim and distant time before the credit crunch I booked flights and hotels to go to South Africa to watch the 2009 Lions trounce the Boks.

I've paid for the internal flights & hotels and have paid a deposit for the return flightto SA. I'm umming and aahing about flashing the cash for the remainder of the cost of the long - and instead simply writing off the costs already incurred. Times is tight. It feels that way anyway. Should I be wasting money on my self?

Anyway the internal flight tickets arrived yesterday. A wave of stupid optimism rolled over me & I could see Shane scoring the winning try in the corner at Pretoria. Have moved from 20% likely to go, to 80% likley to go. Brother-in-law ,who is coming with, is insistent we go. He's very persuasive.

To celebrate: here's a pic of me & Gareth Edwards in an Auckland restaurant prior to the final test vs NZ in 2005. World was a different place then. Gar was still greatest ever player though. I hereby apologise for pestering him and interrupting his meal. He was of course entirely gracious.
